Why study MBBS in China?

Each year the Chinese government publishes a list of universities that can accept foreign students to provide medical education. The medical schools on this list are also included in the World Health Organization (WHO) list of medical schools, which simply means that studying medicine at one of these universities will qualify you to practice medicine in many countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.1 Upon successful completion of the six-year educational program, which includes a one-year internship, students are awarded a degree. They can then return to Pakistan, undergo and pass the PMC examination, and begin practicing anywhere in Pakistan.

Medical education at affordable prices

Another important reason Pakistani students choose to study MBBS in China is that the best Chinese medical universities offer affordable medical education of almost the same quality as the best Pakistani medical universities. Competition is so fierce that only a few thousand applicants are admitted to medical school. This is because medicine in Pakistan is the most respected profession with very good earning potential. Students and their parents, therefore, want only one thing – to get into medical school.

But as mentioned above, it costs you limbs and kidneys to get into a private medical school! Going to a private medical school will cost you limbs and kidneys. A six-year MBBS program in many universities costs almost a trillion. In China, MBBS is highly regarded for the quality of medical education. You can get a six-year MBBS degree in China for the equivalent of $20 million in Pakistan (excluding the cost of living in China, of course). And if you think that’s not enough, there are even more reasons to consider it.

A simple registration processes

In Pakistan, it is almost impossible for the average student to get into a public medical school because competition is fierce. In China, on the other hand, it is easy to get into a prestigious university. There are no entrance exam requirements, and a 70% PCBE and a passing score on the MDCAT in grade 12 are enough to get into the university of your choice.

If we compare the criteria for admission to medical colleges in countries such as Pakistan, the US, the UK, and Australia, it is clear that it is much easier to get into Chinese medical colleges. So, if you decide to study MBBS in China, you can avoid hundreds of students queuing up with you for the MDCAT.

Low Standard Requirements

Chinese medical colleges may not have such strict admission requirements, but that doesn’t mean that the education is not of high quality. Medical schools that are recognized by the Chinese government, listed in the WHO directory, and accredited by the PMC offer world-class medical programs. The curriculum of Chinese MBBS education is almost identical to the curriculum of the major medical fields in Pakistan.

English language education system

For international students, this is the most important factor. Chinese universities are aware of this. Teachers teaching foreign students are therefore qualified in English, teach in English, and can communicate well with their students. Universities often recruit foreign teachers from English-speaking countries. So if you are afraid of getting an MBBS degree in China and think that you have to learn Chinese to get an offer, you are completely wrong.

Creative teaching methods

Medical science is becoming more advanced every day. All countries invest heavily in medical research and training. China is no different. China is one of the few countries that invests a significant portion of its annual GDP in health and medicine. Every year, the Chinese government and Chinese companies fund billions of dollars. To keep up with this rapid growth, Chinese medical universities are changing and developing new and creative medical education systems. MBBS students in Chinese universities are regularly exposed to the latest inventions in medicine, the latest research findings, and the most advanced medical devices and equipment.

The economic cost of living

Besides the fact that studying medicine in China is almost 70% cheaper than studying MBBS in a private medical school in Pakistan, the cost of living for an international student is surprisingly affordable. Everything from renting a dorm or apartment to food costs is the same as in any major Pakistani city, and sometimes even cheaper, depending on where you live in China. Of course, cities like Beijing or Shanghai are more expensive, but medical schools are usually located in places where international students can afford affordable tuition.
