She published her first book of poetry in 1992 and went on to release seven other collections. In addition to her writing, Williams was also a musician. She played the piano and saxophone and had a repertoire that ranged from soulful ballads to funk inspired tunes.

Williams died on July 26th at the age of 49 after a long battle with cancer. She was remembered by family, friends, and colleagues as a generous and compassionate woman who loved life to the fullest. Her work will continue to inspire others for years to come.

Interesting facts about Rannita’s death

In September 2006, Rannita Williams died after a long battle with cancer. She was only 34 years old.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Williams was the youngest of four children. Her sister, Monet, was two years her junior and her brother, Montel, was four years older.

Williams started writing poetry at a young age and began publishing her work in the early 2000s. She quickly became known for her powerful and evocative lyrics. Williams followed up “In The Beginning” with “The Interpreter” (2004), “The Third Life of Grange Copeland” (2005), and “The Lotus Eaters” (2007).

Williams’ poems often explore the spiritual mysteries of life and death. Her work has been described as both intimate and devastatingly reimagined mythologies.

In March 2007, Williams received an honorary doctorate from Wayne State University in Detroit. In recognition of her contributions to poetry and to Detroit’s economy, Governor Jennifer Granholm presented Williams with the Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence.
