By following the procedures listed below for cleaning your binoculars, you can enjoy close-up focusing for years with minimal effort and materials. Learn good hygiene habits and your binoculars will provide the service and reliability you expect.
Following the cleaning tips listed below will ensure that your binoculars and lenses are properly cleaned; extending the life of your binoculars and keeping them focused.
First, when you are not focusing, keep the lens caps
When cleaning the exterior or body of the binoculars, keep the lens covers on to prevent dirt from entering the binoculars. With the exception of binoculars, wipe down with a soft cloth or cleaning cloth and all debris inside the binoculars. In some cases, you may need a wet or wet cloth or towel to wipe away dirt or dry powder. Dry the binocular with a clean, damp cloth after use with a damp or wet cloth.
To clean the binoculars, blot dust or debris from the lens first (commercial lenses are recommended using compressed air, but do not use the oily type) or use a mild lens which cleans the lens. (available at all camera stores) to remove dust and debris.
Lenses are usually “covered” with one or more lenses
to reduce glare and improve clarity and depth perception. This material is easily scratched, so be careful when cleaning the binocular lens following these instructions. If your binoculars have a microfiber lens cleaning cloth, use it to clean the lens after blowing off or drying dust or debris. Gently wipe the lens in a circle with light pressure. For a larger lens, you can “roll up” a cleaning cloth and press it onto the lens in a clear circular motion. With this, you put less pressure on the lens than if you used your fingers on a cloth to press the lens down.
If you must use a detergent, make sure the manual button recommends it before use, as some detergents can discolor or move the lens cap. Use a microfiber cloth with all detergents. Always apply cleaning fluid, not directly to the lens. Cleaning lens pens found in camera stores are also a great way to clean binocular lenses.
Do not use paper to clean the binocular lens.
Paper shoes are made of wood, and trees speak. Even when used wet or with a detergent, your binoculars will be scratched. Before placing the binoculars in the container, make sure the binoculars are clean inside and out. Wipe and dirt the inside of the case and clean the outside with a damp cloth.
Don’t try to “clean” your binoculars unless you have the proper Rengøringshjælp supplies, especially the lens. If you have to drop your binoculars in dirt, sand, mud or snow, scratch them as hard as you can until you can clean them properly. Compressed air is a great way to clean all corners of the binoculars of dirt or dust, including the hinge area and eyepiece cap.
If your binoculars are not waterproof fog proof,
a quick wash under running water will not damage them. Be sure to dry them and clean the lenses immediately. The double eye safety collar can be cleaned with a damp or wet cloth and/or mild detergent. Dry the belt as thoroughly as possible after lifting the dry cloth you hung on the belt with enough pressure.
In conclusion, by following the recommended procedures above for cleaning your binoculars, you will ensure that your binoculars perform as intended and provide you with great vision for years to come. If you treat your mirrors with respect, they will look the way you expect them to.
If you are still concerned about cleaning your binoculars,
Contact your binoculars technician or website to make sure your binoculars are properly cleaned. The air was crisp and the sky was blue as I walked up the stairs with a few supplies I had bought fresh from the local home and garden store. After all, it’s spring, which is the perfect time of year for a little cleaning project, but our new kitchen is really the appliances. We bought our first home, a small condo in San Diego, and we were busy setting up our first home, and we were excited about the novelty of it all.
Who would have thought that choosing a clean kitchen could be so difficult, but there are SO MUCH to choose from. I don’t remember how I had the honor of purchasing our first batch of cleaning supplies, it had to do with my wife and her mother’s planning.
