He has illustrated many children’s books including “Tarzan” by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1950), which was adapted into the movie Tarzan of the Apes (1932); “The Jungle Book” by Rudyard Kipling (1894); “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain; and “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”.
Rivera also wrote and illustrated several children’s books including “Patchwork Princess”, which won an Orbis Pictus award in 1991; “Swamp Angel”, which won two Pura Belpré awards in 1992; “The Lost City,” published by Little Brown & Company in 2004;
and most recently “Bad Day at School” published by Macmillan Children’s Books UK Ltd.
